Pam McKnight's Boston 3day 2001 Pledge Page
On May 18th, 19th and 20th, I will be walking the 60 miles from Leominster to Boston to raise money and awareness for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Does that surprise you? It certainly surprises me! Those of you who know me, know that I don't have much of a history as an athlete, but as soon as I saw a newspaper ad for the walk, I knew I wanted to do it.
Why? ____I believe in the cause. While no one in my immediate circle of friends and family has been touched by breast cancer, the fact is, with 1 in 8 women afflicted, it's only a matter of time ---- unless a cure is found. *I've put together a page describing the mission of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and how much money is being raised by the 3Day walks in Boston and nationwide. To view it, click on the word 'diary' at left. ____I like the sheer audacity and scope of the event. Approximately 3000 walkers (last year walkers ranged from age 18 to 82) and 500 volunteer crew members will be coming together on that May weekend. Not only will we be walking 60 long miles but we will also be camping for two nights in a sea of two-person tents, showering in specially-fitted tractor trailer trucks and monopolizing the majority of port-a-potties in the greater Boston area. Okay, that was probably more than you needed to know. ____Finally, I want to do this as a personal challenge. Not only do I have to get myself in shape ("shape" being a relative concept) for the walk in only 3 short months (I started in February) but I also have to raise a minimum of $1900 to participate in the event. And that would be where you come in... If you agree that this is a great cause, I would love to have your help in reaching my fund-raising goal. Click on the word 'Donate' on the left of this page to find out how you can contribute. Whatever you decide, thanks for taking the time to check this out. I'd love to hear from any of you who would like to sign the guestbook. |
